Super Junior Is On Probation

Super Junior is going through a rough patch. In addition to dealing with poster-tearing shenanigans and injured Elves at the recent Dream Concert, Super Junior-M members Zhou Mi and Henry are on probation right now. Apparently, they aren’t performing up to par, and if they don’t shape up soon, Father SM will have no choice but to mercilessly kick them to the curb.

It’s a pity, but then again, neither Zhou Mi, Henry, nor any of the other Super Junior members were ever really that talented to begin with. The new replacement is rumored to be a talentless, pigeon-looking guy named Soul. With a name like “Soul”, he certainly has a pigeon brain to match.Super Junior will recommence their Super Show Asian Tour in Bangkok, Thailand on July 12th.

Getting Zhang Yun Jing to guest star; first question was acting as a boy or a girl

Before Zhang Yun Jing becomes the winner in SETTV’s “Super Idol”, she is already a very popular, even the tv series is highly interested in her. GTV’s [Love or Bread]’s producer Sit Sheng happens to be the manager of Zhang Yun Jing, so as a matter of fact way, they will want her to guest star for the series; and it just so happens that SETTV is planning to film “I love Shan Bao Mei” and it will be aired right after [Fated To Love You]. The female lead [Shan Bao Mei] is flat-chest, manly and with muscles. At the moment the role is still open, currently people have been talking [Why don’t they get Zhang Yun Jing to play the role “Shan Bao Mei”?]

SETTV’s Chief Executive Chen Yu Shan laughed and said: [There are people who suggested Zhang Yun Jing to play the role as Shan Bao Mei and I did consider about it very thoroughly; but the only criteria that matched with the character will have to be flat-chest only. Plus the actress for‘Shan Bao Mei” must be very good with their acting skills, so we can’t used the newcomer and that is why it didn’t work out.

Lin Jun Jie donates 500 thousand Yuan to help the victims in the disaster zones

The Si Chuan huge earthquake this time round caused JJ to be remembered of the scary earthquake incident he encountered in Taiwan 5 years ago when he just went there. Coming from Singapore, he had never experienced an Earthquake and at that time, he was living by himself in a hostel. When the room started shaking, he thought that it was just him being overworked and having a headache but after he realise that even the lights on the ceiling were shaking wildly, he thought of what his senior Ah Du reminded him of before "When you first arrive in Taiwan, besides the change in weather and taking care of your body and health, you must also remember that when there's an earthquake, run out into open space immediately. Do not take the lift..." JJ after that said that "It was midnight at that time. i was very scared. My first thought was to start praying. Luckily, I got out peacefully. After staying in Taiwan for some time, I got used to the occasional shake of the ground. The Si Chuan earthquake this time made me feel that disasters really have no sympathy towards people. We cannot predict or control it. And when I see the photos or read the news, I find it hard to believe that they're all the truth. It's very scary and I don't know what I can do for everyone. I can only do what I can and hence, I wrote the song "Love and Hope". I hope that those friends in the disaster area will be able to gain strength from the song and persevere on." JJ also plead to everyone "If I'm at the scene, I might not be of much help because one person's ability is limited. But once united, there will be much that we can achieve. Hopefully, those with money can donate their money. Those that can help will help. We must learn to appreciate what we have."

Logitech V450 Nano Laser Mouse

Logitech has announced a new mouse for notebooks, the V450 Nano. The mouse uses a laser sensor to achieve greater precision than optical mice, and like other Nanos operates wirelessly, using a tiny 2.4GHz receiver that plugs into a notebook's USB 2.0 port. This receiver can also be stored inside the mouse, in order to prevent it from being knocked out of a notebook during travel. Controls include left and right buttons plus a scrollwheel. As it is a notebook mouse the 450 is powered by AA batteries, which should last approximately a year on a single charge. The mouse costs $50, and runs on both Macs and PCs, with the former running on Mac OS X 10.3.9 or higher and the latter requiring Windows XP or Vista. It should ship to the US later this month.

jolin new song "日不落"

the lyric of "日不落"

Money Lessons From the Boob Tube

It's no secret that you can learn something about the way money works by watching television programs like "Power Lunch," on CNBC, and "Money for Breakfast," on FOX Business. But for those of us who don't read stock quotes and fund prospectuses for fun, watching those shows can feel like work. Sometimes, you want to just sit back and watch Andy and Barney outwit some small-town crooks and not think too hard.

Fortunately, if you want to enjoy a fun sitcom or a trashy reality show and still learn how to make money, you can. You just have to watch them with a slightly different mind-set.

If you really think about your favorite TV programs you can pick up almost as many financial lessons as you could by watching Maria Bartiromo on CNBC.

Don't believe us? Then read about the money lessons in these eight classics.

The show: "The Cosby Show"

Channel: TV Land

What you can learn: See what family life can be like when both parents work hard to become successful, affluent professionals. The family goes through the trials of daily life while putting family first -- and managing to laugh, hug and drop lots of clever one-liners.

Money quote: In this famous dialogue from the pilot episode, Theo tells his dad that he doesn't aspire to make a lot of money like his parents. He wants to make just enough, like regular people. And so using Monopoly money, Cliff offers a classic lesson in economics.

Cliff: So how much do you expect to make a week for "regular people"?

Theo: $250.

Cliff: (pointing to the bed) Sit down. I will give you $300 a week. $1,200 a month. (Cliff hands the money to Theo)

Theo: I'll take it!

Cliff: And I will take $350 for taxes.

Theo: Whoa!

Cliff: Oh, yeah. See, the government goes for the regular people first. So, how much does that leave you with?

Theo: $850.

Cliff: OK, now you'll need an apartment because you are NOT living here. Now an apartment in Manhattan will run you at least $400 a month. (Cliff takes $400)

Theo: I'll live in New Jersey. (Theo takes back $200)

Cliff: Now you'll need a car. (Cliff takes $300)

Theo: I'll drive a motorbike. (Theo takes back $100)

Cliff: You're gonna need a helmet. (Cliff takes $50) Now figure $100 a month for clothes and shoes.

Theo: Figure $200. I wanna look GOOD.

Cliff: So, how much does that leave you with?

Theo: $200. So, no problem.

Cliff: There IS a problem! You haven't EATEN yet! (Cliff takes $100)

Theo: I can get by on bologna and cereal. (Theo takes back his $100) So I've got everything under control PLUS $200 left for the month.

Wealth Defense: The Biggest Threat to Your Money

You know what I'm talking about. Picture this scene: You're at your 6-year-old's soccer game, chasing your 3-year-old out onto the field. Your boss calls your cell phone with an emergency complaint from a client, and in the middle of this crisis, your mom tries to break in on call-waiting to complain -- again -- about your sister's boyfriend. Meanwhile, in the back of your head, a little voice asks: "Should I have refinanced my home mortgage to get a lower rate?"

You're busy -- really busy. I'm sure you don't have hours to set up a financial filing system in neat, coordinated folders. You probably don't have time to review your homeowners' insurance or auto insurance regularly. You consider it a pretty good achievement that you managed to check the performance of your 401(k) funds this year.

You know you should do more, and you might not realize how much your financial neglect may cost you. Compared with your average evil financial villain, neglect just isn't that sexy. It doesn't sound nearly as terrible as a housing bust or a market crash. You don't find any statistics measuring its effects month after month, like inflation. It doesn't even wear a mask or a cape.

But it costs you plenty. Here are some common things we forget to do anything about:

  • That $5,000 you have sitting in a savings account that doesn't pay interest? Plunk it in a CD paying 5% interest, and you've just made an extra $250 this year.
  • Those bank fees you're paying every month because you haven't taken the time to switch to a free checking account? They could be sapping your wallet to the tune of $25 to $100 or more every month.
  • Been meaning to take a look at those credit reports? Identity theft could cost you an average $422, according to a survey the Better Business Bureau released last year.
  • Have a chunk of change sitting in your brokerage account ready for investment in a Roth IRA, where it can grow tax free? Leave $1,000 in that taxable account for 10 years and it'll cost you $641 in taxes and lost earnings (assuming the market keeps up its average annual 10.5% return and you're in the 28% bracket).
  • Has "write a will" been on your list for a few years now? According to AARP, probate costs can eat 5% of your estate. On an estate worth $800,000, that comes to $40,000.

I borrowed those last two examples from the Motley Fool Green Light newsletter, which promises you at least $450 worth of money-saving ideas in each issue. Not bad for a service that you can look at free for 30 days. This month's ideas add up to a whopping $1,117 -- all you have to do is find the time to get it done.

So make the time. Get a babysitter, or send the kids to the park for the afternoon with Dad. Hire a neighborhood teenager to mow the lawn. Turn off your cell phone for the afternoon. Order groceries online and have them delivered. Do whatever it takes to carve out a free hour or two once a month, even if it costs you a little bit of money to free up a few hours. Your investment will pay you in cash dividends.

US: 500 youths detained in Iraq; 10 in Afghanistan

The U.S. military is holding about 500 juveniles suspected of being "unlawful enemy combatants" in detention centers in Iraq and has about 10 detained in Afghanistan, the United States has told the United

A total of 2,500 youths under the age of 18 have been detained, almost all in Iraq, for periods up to a year or more in President Bush's anti-terrorism campaign since 2002, the United States reported last week to the U.N.'s Committee on the Rights of the Child.

Civil liberties groups such as the International Justice Network and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) denounced the detentions as abhorrent, and a violation of U.S. treaty obligations.

In the periodic report to the United Nations on U.S. compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the United States confirmed that "as of April 2008, the United States held about 500 juveniles in Iraq."

"The juveniles that the United States has detained have been captured engaging in anti-coalition activity, such as planting Improvised Explosive Devices, operating as lookouts for insurgents, or actively engaged in fighting against U.S. and Coalition forces," the U.S. report said.

The majority are believed to be 16 or 17 years old. In the United States a 17-year-old can enlist in the U.S. army, with parental consent.

The report said that of the total of 2,500 juveniles jailed since 2002, all but 100 had been picked up in Iraq. Of the remainder, most were swept up in Afghanistan.

A total of eight juveniles have been held at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility, but all were released from 2004 to 2006.

"It remains uncertain the exact age of these individuals, as most of them did not know their date of birth or even the year they were born," the report says. But U.S. military doctors who evaluated them believed that three were under age 16.

In Afghanistan, "as of April 2008, there are approximately 10 juveniles being held at the Bagram Theater Internment Facility as unlawful enemy combatants," the report said.

In Bagram, a U.S. military spokesman, Marine 1st Lt. Richard K. Ulsh, told the AP on Sunday: "At any time there are up to 625 detainees being held at the Bagram Theater Internment Facility. There are no detainees being held under the age of 16 and, without getting into specifics due to the frequent fluctuation in the number of detainees being held, we can tell you that there are currently less than 10 detainees being held under the age of 18."

Civil liberties groups were outraged.

"It's shocking to me that the U.S. government has not figured out a way to keep children out of adult prisons. It's outrageous, and it is not making us any safer, I can say that about Afghanistan from personal experience," Tina M. Foster, the executive director of the International Justice Network, said Sunday.

Her group brought lawsuits on behalf of the Guantanamo detainees in 2006, and has taken on the cases of adult detainees in Bagram. She said the U.S. military does not release the names of juveniles it is holding in Bagram, so her group is trying to learn who they are by finding Afghan relatives.

"It is shocking to know that the U.S. is holding hundreds of juveniles in Iraq and Afghanistan, and even more disturbing that there is no comprehensive policy in place that will protect their rights as children," Jamil Dakwar, director of the American Civil Liberties Union's Human Rights Program, said in a statement. "Juveniles and former child soldiers should be treated first and foremost as candidates for rehabilitation and reintegration into society, not subjected to further victimization."

According to the ACLU, the lack of protections and consideration for the juvenile status of detainees violates the obligations of the U.S. under the Optional Protocol on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict that the U.S. ratified in 2002, as well as universally accepted international norms.

The U.N. Committee on the Rights of the Child is scheduled to question the U.S. delegation on its compliance with its obligations on May 22 in Geneva.

The U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the General Assembly in 1989, with backing at the time from the U.S. government of President Bill Clinton, and with strong lobbying from then-first lady Hillary Rodham Clinton, who now is competing for the Democratic Party presidential nomination with Barack Obama.

Yahoo-Microsoft pact could lead to merger: analysts

A potential partnership deal between Microsoft Corp and Yahoo Inc the companies revealed over the weekend may prove to be a stepping stone to an outright acquisition, analysts said on

UBS analysts said in a research note that the business discussions between Microsoft and Yahoo could be a prelude to an eventual outright acquisition offer because it was vital for Microsoft to acquire Yahoo on friendly terms.

"A near-term deal could act as an intermediate step that would go a long way toward testing the waters," UBS wrote.

The brokerage said a Microsoft-Yahoo partnership is likely to focus on search advertising and should be seen as an alternative to a scenario in which Yahoo would outsource to Google Inc part of its Web search ad sales.

Stifel Nicolas argued that Microsoft may be seeking to buy Yahoo's search and search-advertising business outright, leaving Yahoo independent but smaller, focused on display advertising and Internet media businesses.

Stifel analysts George Askew and Scott Devitt warned that Yahoo must reach a deal with either Google or Microsoft or face a bruising proxy battle with activist investor Carl Icahn, who is seeking to install his own slate of Yahoo directors.

Icahn launched a proxy campaign last Thursday to replace Yahoo's board with directors who would reopen talks with Microsoft, saying Yahoo had acted irrationally in refusing the software company's $47.5 billion bid.

The proxy battle "may ultimately drive a damaged Yahoo into Microsoft's arms" at around $31 per share, Stifel said.

Microsoft made a $31-per-share cash and stock offer in late January. Earlier this month, Microsoft discussed raising that offer to $33 a share, but backed away after Yahoo management held out for $37 per share.

The software giant's move to court Yahoo was likely to prompt the Icahn to press Yahoo to further pursue an alliance with Google, a person familiar with the billionaire investor's thinking told Reuters on Sunday.

China's next hurdle: shelter earthquake survivors

Jiangyou, China - A critical shortage of tents is casting a pall of uncertainty over the future of people left homeless by last week's earthquake here, as an army of local Chinese officials and volunteers struggle to cope with a stream of refugees.

In this city where 340,000 quake victims are living on sidewalks in makeshift shelters, "our biggest difficulty is where to put people," says Feng Jian, spokesman for the relief operation's local command center. "Every day more and more victims arrive here," the nearest big town for many in isolated Beichuan county. "We are under heavy pressure."

Among the displaced people, living with just the clothes on their backs and a strip of plastic sheeting above their heads, the mood is one of stoic resignation. "Life is not very easy, but we have no choice. We are homeless," says Zhao Fen. "How long we stay here depends on the government's decision."

As hopes of saving people trapped in the ruins fade, Jiangyou is on the front line of a new crisis – what to do with the homeless survivors.

Food and water are not a problem here: Relief distribution centers are piled high with bottled water and vegetables, while local people are providing rice and other cooked food.

But the primitive and unsanitary conditions in which the displaced people are living cheek by jowl in the open air have raised concerns of disease.

The danger is exacerbated, says Chen Jianbin, deputy head of the city's sanitation department, by a flaw that the crisis has revealed in the government's preset plan for dealing with natural disasters: There are practically no portable toilets to serve the flood of refugees that has taxed local officials to levels they had never anticipated.

"We have never experienced anything like this," says Mr. Chen. "It is inevitable that we did not take some things into enough consideration."

Reflecting the scale of the disaster, China allowed in the first foreign military aid Sunday, when two United States Air Force planes brought supplies, including 655 tents, worth $1.6 million into Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province.

The government also announced three days of national mourning to begin Monday at 2:28 p.m., exactly one week after the earthquake struck.

The Olympic torch relay, which has been held around the country this month, was suspended.

'Some days thousands arrive'
Coping with the homeless here is complicated by the fact that the authorities have only a vague idea of how many there are: Officials have compiled no register because "some days thousands arrive and we don't have enough time to take their details," Mr. Feng explains.

The boulevards of this city of 870,000 people are now lined with plastic shelters that victims have thrown up by themselves, or with the help of volunteers.

Local people are better housed, some using furniture they have taken from their homes. Many of them are simply waiting until aftershocks end before moving back into their houses, if local officials deem them safe.

Tens of thousands of others in this town, however, will have nowhere to go, and the local government does not yet have anywhere to put them.

"Now we can ensure food and water, the next step will be to ask for donations of tents, and they will arrive very soon," says Feng.

In the meantime, the authorities are relying on 3,000 volunteers who are at the sharp end of caring for the homeless. Mostly young people, they spend their days collecting trash, spraying disinfectant, cooking food, distributing bottled water, handing out first aid supplies, and encouraging personal cleanliness.

As the government commandeers trucks and moves supplies arriving from all over the country to distribution points, ordinary citizens are ensuring their delivery to individual refugees here.

Sometimes they are doing jobs that might ordinarily be done by the government: A group of 30-somethings, who met on an Internet chatroom and who normally engage in social activities together, have set up a missing persons registration bureau at the wide crossroads around which rural refugees have gathered.

"If we don't have enough people there are volunteers to help us," says Feng. "But everything must be orderly. They must help the relief effort according to the government's general arrangements.

Awaiting government plans
Some volunteers say those arrangements are not always clear. "Most officials are doing a great job," says Chen Shoujun, a cellphone dealer who has become an unofficial leader of volunteers helping refugees from out of town. "But the city leader should have a clear plan of how to settle the victims, and I have not seen one yet."

The earthquake survivors, meanwhile, are grateful for the aid they are receiving, but many are worried about their flimsy shelter.

"All it would take is one thunderstorm and things would be terrible," says Dong Shaoqing, who arrived here last Wednesday with his family from a village in the mountains. "We hope the government can move us to a safe place."

Most are fatalistic about their immediate future and are simply awaiting instructions. "I don't know how long we will stay here," says Yang Afu, who lost his home in the earthquake. "We will abide by the arrangements the government makes."

The authorities also appear to enjoy considerable confidence for the time being. "The government must have a plan for us," says Zhao Zhongyu, kneeling on a blanket spread on the sidewalk. "But they've got lots of other things to do and they can't tell us yet."

Others betray more uncertainty. "We want to know our future and we want to know what the government has planned for us," says Shi Mingyou, standing bare-chested in the afternoon heat. "We don't know what the next step is."

Neither, for the time being, do the authorities. "How long it will take" to set up camps "depends on how many people there will be to deal with," explains Feng. "And that we cannot say.
